All villages in Uttarakhand with a population of 50 or more will be connected by roads by 2030. A comprehensive policy will also be formed by integrating various departments to curb road accidents effectively across the State. This was announced by Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on the occasion of the State Foundation Day at Police Line in Dehradun on Saturday. He made several significant announcements for the development and welfare of Uttarakhand.
He said that the government will ensure prompt restoration of traffic flow by installing Bailey bridges in cases where roads and bridges are washed away due to disasters. A women’s policy will also be implemented soon to ensure comprehensive development of women in Uttarakhand while a unique youth policy will be established to foster holistic development of the youth. Dhami also announced that Uttarakhand’s athletes who win medals in the upcoming national games will receive an additional monetary reward, equal to the amount already designated as prize money, provided by the State government. He further stated that an annual National Uttarakhandi Migrants Day will be organised each November for residents living in other Indian States, while an International Uttarakhandi Migrants Day will be held every January for Uttarakhandis residing abroad. Dhami said that a special protocol will also be introduced to maintain road quality and hold contractors and engineers accountable for their work. Dhami also paid tribute to those who recently lost their lives in a bus accident in Almora and recalled the contributions of the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, under whose leadership the dream of a separate Uttarakhand state became a reality. He added that the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line project will soon make it possible to connect the hills by rail. New medical colleges are being set up in different districts, and a satellite centre of AIIMS Rishikesh is also in progress. With policies aimed at industrial, agricultural and tourism growth, the state has successfully attracted investment opportunities, resulting in increased employment, entrepreneurship, and economic progress, he said. The CM also mentioned several stringent and historic decisions taken for the welfare of Uttarakhand, including passing the uniform civil code, implementing the nation’s strictest anti-copying and anti-conversion laws and introducing measures to curb riots. The government has undertaken a campaign against illegal encroachments, freeing over 5,000 acres of government land and has introduced a horizontal reservation of 10 per cent for state movement activists and 30 per cent for women in government jobs. He said that the government’s determination to safeguard Uttarakhand’s culture is also reflected in laws against spitting in food items and stringent penalties for offenders. A strict land law will be enacted soon to protect the State’s original charm, as the government aims to take decisive action against those who compromise it, Dhami said. He added that as Uttarakhand begins its silver jubilee year of foundation, this year will be a landmark in the journey to make it one of the best states in the country, driven by the government’s unwavering commitment to progress. He also congratulated this year’s Uttarakhand Gaurav Samman awardees, including India’s Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan, folk singer Pritam Bhartwan, social reformer and spiritual leader Mata Mangla, actor Hemant Pandey and Mahesh Kudiyal.
