The e-auction of fancy or ‘VIP’ number plates held by Dehradun Regional Transport Office (RTO) concluded on Sunday with ‘0001’ fetching Rs 13.77 lakh. The registration number UK07HC0001 elicited the highest bid in the auction, surpassing its reserve price of Rs one lakh by a considerable margin.
The regional transport officer (Administration) Sandeep Saini said that a total of 98 applicants participated in the bidding for non-transport category fancy numbers on Sunday. He informed that other premium numbers also saw competitive bidding like UK07HC0009 received a final bid of Rs 3.95 lakh, while UK07HC0007 and UK07HC0005 were sold for Rs 3.08 lakh and Rs 3.05 lakh respectively. UK07HC0002 was picked up for Rs 2.1 lakh.
Numbers like UK07HC9999 and UK07HC7777 were also in high demand, closing at Rs 1.08 lakh and Rs 1.02 lakh respectively. He said that repetitive and attractive sequences also remained popular choices. UK07HC8888 went for Rs 96,000 and UK07HC0999, with a reserve price of just Rs 10,000, received a winning bid of Rs 95,000. Other notable numbers included UK07HC0004 at Rs 57,000, UK07HC0011 at Rs 53,000 and UK07HC0008 at Rs 42,000. Saini stated that numbers with repeating digits or significant patterns such as UK07HC1111, UK07HC6666 and UK07HC3333 were all sold between Rs 25,000 and Rs 39,000. Even numbers with lower visibility like UK07HC0077 and UK07HC7000 were auctioned off at Rs 11,000 each, he said.
The online bidding platform has made it easier for applicants to secure personalised number plates, offering transparency and wide participation from vehicle owners interested in unique and symbolic registrations, Saini added.
