The illegal parking at Satighat, Kankhal which was closed eight days ago has been restarted in blatant violation of rules and regulations. Parking fee is being charged from people arriving here for Asthi Visarjan. A video has gone viral on social media which purportedly shows that the parking is not closed. The video shows some people charging Rs 50 parking fee per car and also giving a receipt. Two days ago, a sign board displaying the municipal corporation’s authority on the space was also removed following which the corporation had lodged an FIR in the Kankhal police station.
For years, the parking being run illegally on government land near Satighat was closed by the officials of the Municipal Corporation of Haridwar and Revenue department. An alleged leader and some people with him used to manage the parking and charge fees from people arriving here to immerse the remains of their family members in the Ganga. The municipal corporation put up a board asking people to inform the corporation if anyone seeks parking fees. This board was first covered and then removed. An FIR was also lodged in the matter some days ago but if the viral video is to be believed, the parking has continued to function illegally.
