Virasat Art and Heritage Festival set to commence from today

Dehradun is set to host Virasat Art and Heritage Festival 2024, scheduled to take place from October 15 to 29 at the Ambedkar Stadium in the city. The event will be inaugurated by the Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj. The festival will be a vibrant celebration of Indian and international folk and classical music, dance, arts, crafts and history and will be organised by Rural Entrepreneurship for Art and Cultural History (REACH), the founder and general secretary of REACH, RK Singh said. He stated, “Virasat is an annual cultural festival showcasing India’s rich artistic traditions and heritage. This year’s festival will provide a platform for artisans and craftsmen to present their folk and classical art forms, maintaining the essence of Indian culture.”

He informed that the 15-day festival will feature a variety of programmes catering to diverse interests. Attendees can look forward to heritage meditation sessions and performances by young artists from schools and colleges across Dehradun. Besides this, a craft workshop will be conducted by master artisans to celebrate traditional crafts. The festival will also include a vintage car and bike rally, a heritage quiz, a photography competition and insightful talks on music and literature by renowned experts. He said that the showcase of folk and classical art forms from across the country will be one of the highlights of the festival. The main attraction of the festival will be a grand instrumental music programme featuring an array of musical genres, including Ghazal, Sufi, Carnatic music and both Hindustani and Carnatic classical music, Singh said. The programme director Lokesh Ohri also said that the festival this year will be a cultural feast for art enthusiasts and the general public alike, making it a must visit event for those looking to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Indian heritage.
