Volunteers help 23,565 patients to recover from TB in Uttarakhand

A total of 23,565 tuberculosis patients of the State have recovered from the disease with the help of 11,321 Nikshay mitras under the national TB eradication programme. The health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the State government is committed to eradicate TB from the State and for this it is working on a war scale.

He said that campaigns in the rural and urban areas to eradicate TB have been undertaken in the State with the help of community support. He informed that 11,321 volunteers (Nikshay mitras) have so far adopted 24,359 TB patients in the State under the campaign and out of the 23,565 patients have fully recovered from the disease till December 2024. He said that in 701 patients in Almora, 353 in Bageshwar, 602 in Chamoli, 345 in Champawat, 4834 in Dehradun, 6,248 in Haridwar, 2,577 in Nainital, 1,001 in Pauri, 571 in Pithoragarh, 427 in Rudraprayag, 724 in Tehri, 4,450 in Udham Singh Nagar and 732 in Uttarkashi district have recovered from the disease.

 Rawat said that the union government had given a target to identify 28,000 TB patients in Uttarakhand in the year 2024 under the national TB eradication programme. He said that the State government earmarked 29,319 TB patients which was more than the target. The minister said that with the community participation and efforts of the department the State has achieved 90 per cent success in the programme. He said that under the programme, 28,523 TB patients were screened for AIDS and 28,076 patients were tested for diabetes.

He said that the facilities for treatment and testing of TB are available in all the health centres in the State.

The minister further informed that the government of India had certified 1424 village Panchayats as TB free village Panchayats in the year 2023 while 2077 village Panchayats were certified TB free in the year 2024.

 He said that a special 100 day campaign for TB eradication is currently underway in the State.
