Voter turnout revised to 58.89 per cent in Kedarnath bypoll

 Election Commission (EC) has reported 58.89 per cent voter turnout in the Kedarnath Assembly by-election, the voting for which was held on Tuesday. The Commission had reported a turnout of 57.64 per cent after the end of voting on Tuesday but it revised the figure on Wednesday.

 On the day the strong room in Agastyamuni was sealed in presence of general observer of Election Commission of India, Vinod Sheshan after all the EVMs were placed in it. The district magistrate and returning officer Saurabh Gaharwar informed that 166 polling parties had returned on Tuesday while seven polling parties returned on Wednesday after conducting the polling.  The last polling party to arrive in Agastyamuni was from the remote Toshi village which reported its presence at 12.15 pm on Wednesday. 

The administration had divided the Kedarnath constituency into two zones and 27 sectors and the EC had made arrangements of webcasting from 130 polling booths.  In the by-election a total of 90,875 voters were registered out of whom 45,956 were female and 44,919 were male voters. The counting of votes will be done on Saturday in Agastyamuni. There are six candidates in the fray including Asha Nautiyal of BJP, Manoj Rawat of Congress and independent candidate Tribhuvan Chauhan.
