Votes cast for 100 ULBs to be counted today

 The counting of ballot papers for the elections of 100 urban local bodies in the State will be held on Saturday. The State Election Commission and the administration have made elaborate arrangements for counting of votes which will commence at 8 am.

As per the data of the SEC, out of 30,29,028 registered voters 19,81,200 (9,83,601 female and 9,97,509 males) had exercised their franchise in the elections.

The SEC has set up 54 counting centres in the State to count the votes of the 100 ULBs. In these centres it has set up 986 tables to count the votes. The SEC has set up six counting centres in Dehradun district to count votes of six ULBs including Municipal Corporation of Dehradun. For the counting of votes in Udham Singh Nagar district which has maximum number of ULBs (17) in the State, the SEC has set up four counting centres and 230 tables.

 The counting process will involve making bundles of the ballot papers after opening the ballot boxes. The results are expected to be announced on Saturday evening. The declaration of result and handing over of the certificate of victory by the respective returning officers will end the process of elections of ULBs in the State which started after the issue of the notification for the elections on December 23, 2024.

There are 107 ULBs in the State but the elections were held in only 100 bodies. The State has 11 municipal corporations, 43 municipal councils and 46 Nagar Panchayats. The SEC had set up 1,518 polling stations and 3,393 polling booths for the ULB elections in all parts of the State.
