The voting for the second stage of the elections of the three tier Panchayati raj bodies in the 12 districts of the State will be held on Thursday. The voting will be held for the posts of president of district Panchayats, vice president of district Panchayats, Block pramukhs and senior and junior block Pramukhs between 10 AM to 3 PM on Thursday. After the end of the voting the counting of votes and official declaration of the results will be done.
The BJP supported candidates have been elected unopposed on the post of president of district Panchayat in Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Tehri and Udham Singh Nagar districts.
In the remaining seven districts, there will be a direct fight between BJP and Congress supported candidates on the coveted post of president district Panchayat.
There is a direct contest between Madhu Chauhan of BJP and Sukhwinder Kaur of Congress in Dehradun, while in Pauri, the contest is between Rachna Butola of BJP and Dipika Istwal of Congress. In Nainital, the BJP has fielded Deepa Darmwal against Pushpa Negi of Congress while a keen contest is likely between Poonam Kathait of BJP and Priti Pushpwan in Rudraprayag.
In Bageshwar there is a direct contest between Sobha Arya of BJP and Saroj Arya of Congress while in Chamoli the contest is between Daulat Singh Bisht of BJP and Rama Devi of Congress.
