Voting was held peacefully in Haridwar Panchayat polls

Polling in the Panchayat elections in Haridwar was held peacefully without any major untoward incident on Monday. The voting percentage till the evening was 68.36 percent, said the deputy district election officer Prateek Jain. A total of 8,53,402 voters are to decide the electoral fate of 8,751 candidates contesting for 4,305 posts in the Panchayat election. After counting the votes the election results will be declared on September 28.
Deputy district election officer Prateek Jain said that 68.36 percent of voting had been recorded till 4 PM in all six blocks. The voting process was going on peacefully.
The Haridwar district magistrate Vinay Shankar Pandey and senior superintendent of police Yogendra Singh Rawat inspected various polling stations during the polling and directed the officer on duty to remain alert during voting.
Meanwhile, there was an altercation in Roorkee during the polling. Mursalin, who is contesting for a post in district Panchayat from Safarpur village of Roorkee, and another candidate from the village Shahzad Ali had an altercation that turned violent. Mursalin has submitted a complaint to the police and sought action. Roorkee police circle officer Vivek Kumar said that the police had reached and resolved the altercation. Further action was being taken in the matter, he added.
