Wanted member of Baba Amrik Gang arrested

The police arrested a key member of the Baba Amrik gang, Sanjay Gupta, who is wanted in connection with numerous land fraud cases across Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab, as per the police. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that Gupta, along with other members of the Baba Amrik gang, has been implicated in scams involving the fraudulent sale of land, duping victims of crores of rupees. Several complaints have been registered against the gang in multiple states for land fraud and other crimes. Prior to his arrest, Gupta had been evading capture, with arrest warrants issued against him.
Singh said that the complainant Govind Singh Pundir had filed a case at Rajpur Police Station stating that Gupta and his associates duped him of by promising to sell him land and duped him of crores of rupees. After the registration of the case, Gupta and his associates absconded. The police had arrested six other members of the Baba Amrik gang, including the gang leader Amrik, who was apprehended in Himachal Pradesh on September 20. Gupta was arrested on Monday when he was attempting to surrender at a Dehradun court.
During questioning, Gupta allegedly admitted to being part of a scheme where, along with other gang members, they would lure victims with the promise of selling land at low prices, the SSP said. He informed that to gain the trust of the victims, they would used tricks, such as having Baba Amrik sniff the soil of the land and proclaim it suitable for purchase. After receiving large sums of money from the victims, the gang would stall the land registration process and eventually flee, Singh added.
