The war of words between the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party has continued regarding the plan to construct a purported symbolic version of the Kedarnath temple by a trust in Delhi. The Congress State chief spokeswoman Garima Mehra Dasauni said that by levelling allegations at the Congress regarding a Badrinath temple constructed in Mumbai during 2015, the BJP has only put itself in the dock. She said that the temple constructed in Mumbai was not Badrinath Dham but a temple which was named Badrinath. Nobody had opposed it as the Congress leaders had not said that those unable to visit Badrinath in Chamoli district can pay obeisance to lord Badrinath in Mumbai. However, during the foundation laying for the symbolic Kedarnath temple, the chief minister had said that those unable to visit Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district can seek his blessings at Bauradi in Delhi. She further averred that CM Pushkar Singh Dhami had stated at the event that while one can pay obeisance at Kedarnath in Uttarakhand for only some months in a year, one will be able to do so throughout the year in Delhi. She said, “If the foundation laying for a Badrinath temple was held during 2015 in Mumbai, the BJP is in the dock for not effectively playing the role of opposition at that time. It is the task of the opposition to give right direction to the government but the BJP remained silent instead of being a responsible opposition at that time. What is the BJP trying to prove by repeating what the Congress did?”
The Congress leader further said that the State government is eliciting criticism with the Teerth Purohits protesting and the Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand also opposing the latest development. She further alleged that the CM’s actions have caused damage to pilgrimage in Uttarakhand and affected the livelihood of lakhs of people. “Devotees from across India and abroad undergo hardships to visit the Char Dham but the BJP’s actions are an attempt to dilute the spiritual importance of these very sacred shrines and have hurt the sentiments of the followers of Sanatan Dharma. Our Dham are ancient and religiously important, and nobody has the right to tamper with them, irrespective of the party in power,” Dasauni added.
