Warmer days to be followed by rainy spell in State

The temperatures in the State are forecast to rise three to four degrees above normal during the next three days. This warmer spell is expected to be followed by a spell of rainy weather, according to the State meteorological centre. The meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh district today. Dry weather will prevail in the remaining districts, The State meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. The surface wind is likely to be strong and gusty (30-40 kmph) at isolated places in the State’s districts.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly cloudy sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 37 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius respectively today.

The State meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said that the weather is likely to remain clear till May 6 though some weather activity is expected in some mountainous districts and higher reaches during this period. The maximum and minimum temperatures are currently near normal in both the mountainous and plain districts but the temperatures are expected to rise by three to four degrees Celsius in plains and two to three degrees Celsius in the mountainous regions in the next few days. He said that the maximum temperature is expected to rise three to four degrees above normal and reach 37 to 39 degrees Celsius in the plains and upto 27 degrees Celsius in the mountainous regions. “From May 7, a rise in the thunderstorm activity is expected with light rain especially in the Kumaon region. Light rain is expected in various places across the State on May 8, 9, 10 and this activity is expected to rise on May 11, 12, 13. The rainfall activity from May 8 is expected to provide major relief from forest fires raging in the State. The temperatures are also expected to drop below normal from May 8,” Singh said.
