With light to moderate rain being witnessed in various parts of the State on Monday, the State meteorological centre has warned of the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in three districts and heavy rain in six districts on Tuesday. The centre issued an orange alert (Be Prepared) regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/very intense to extremely intense spells of rain likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Bageshwar districts. It also issued a yellow warning (Be Updated) regarding the possibility of heavy rainfall/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/intense to very intense spells of rain likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Haridwar, Pauri and Nainital districts. Further, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/intense to very intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining districts of the State. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in the State’s districts today.
The State meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said that a saturation level has been reached which has affected the absorption of water in the soil. This may result in landslides and sudden rise in the level of water in mountain streams and other water bodies. He advised travellers to be patient while those living in proximity to water bodies should remain alert. Singh further said that the weather activity is likely to tone down to normal from August 14 to 18.
Meanwhile, the provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky. Few spells of light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur, of which one or two spells may be intense/heavy in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 32 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The rain recorded in various areas on Monday was 21.5 millimetres in Nainital, 17.5 millimetres in Yamkeshwar, 14 millimetres in Pauri, 11.5 millimetres in Dehradun and 10.5 millimetres in Haridwar.
