Warning- intense spells of rain & thunderstorms likely in State today

Temperatures drop below normal after soaring above normal for days

Rain and hail across the State during the past couple of days has caused a considerable drop in the temperatures with the hot weather being replaced by temperatures below normal. Similar weather is likely on Saturday.
The State Meteorological Centre has issued a warning regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail and intense spells of rain likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar and Almora districts today. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/intense spells of rain/hail/ gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Pauri, Champawat and Nainital districts. Further, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail and gusty winds (30-40 kmp) are likely to occur at isolated places in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts. Apart from this, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at many places in all districts of the State today.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky. Light to moderate rain/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are also likely to occur. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 31 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Friday were 31.6 degrees Celsius and 16.9 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 32 degrees Celsius and 18.9 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 22 degrees Celsius and 7.4 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 22.8 degrees Celsius and 11.1 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
The maximum temperature was a degree below normal in Dehradun while in Pantnagar, the maximum was three degrees below normal with the minimum being three degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was two degrees below normal in Mukteshwar. The maximum was three degrees below normal while the minimum was a degree below normal in New Tehri on Friday.
