Weather Alert- Heavy rain/snowfall likely in five districts today

The state meteorological centre has issued a yellow alert regarding the possibility of heavy rain/snowfall which is likely to occur at isolated places situated at altitudes of 3,000 metres and above in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts on Saturday. Further, thunderstorm accompanied with hail and lightning is likely to occur at isolated places in Haridwar, Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/snowfall is likely to occur at most places in districts of the state today. Snowfall is likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 2,500 metres and above. According to the meteorological centre head Bikram Singh, the influence of a western disturbance is expected to affect the weather from Friday night and likely to exert its effect on the state till January 9.
The provisional state capital Dehradun is forecast to experience generally cloudy skies with the possibility of light to moderate rain/thundershower. Further, hail/lightning is also likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 17 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places on Friday were 21.8 degrees Celsius and 8.3 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 22.4 degrees Celsius and 12. 2 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 11 degrees Celsius and 2.8 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 13.4 degrees Celsius and 4.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
