Weather to change again, snowfall forecast in State this week

Though the State is witnessing comparatively warmer temperatures following the spell of rain and snowfall on February 20, the weather is forecast to take a turn once again in a couple of days with snowfall forecast in the mountains.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast that places situated at altitudes of 3,200 metres and above in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Pithoragarh and Almora may experience snowfall on February 25 and 26. Similar conditions are expected in areas situated at altitudes of 2,800 metres and above in these districts on February 27 and in places located at altitudes of 2,500 metres and above on February 28 and March 1.

While thunder and lightning are forecast at some places in Uttarkashi, Tehri and Dehradun districts on February 26, a yellow warning (Watch) has been issued regarding the possibility of heavy snowfall at places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts, along with the possibility of thunder and lightning at some places in Tehri, Dehradun, Almora, Champawat, Nainital, Haridwar and Pauri districts on February 27.

Meanwhile, the State Meteorological Centre has forecast that dry weather is likely to occur across the State on Monday.  The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear sky becoming partly cloudy towards the afternoon/evening. Further, the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 27 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Sunday were 26.6 degrees Celsius and 10.5 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 27 degrees Celsius and nine degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 13.9 degrees Celsius and 3.2 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 17.6 degrees Celsius and five degrees Celsius in New Tehri
