Weather yellow alert for some districts for May 8

The weather has remained inclement in the hills of Uttarakhand for the past few days with snow, rain and hail. In some places, debris has blocked roads, affecting traffic movement. Gangotri National Highway has been blocked at Madgaon as rocks and debris rolled down. The agencies concerned are engaged in clearing the roads of the debris to ensure that the traffic movement resumes. Meanwhile, the meteorological department has said that the weather across the state would remain dry till May 10 while issuing yellow alert for several districts like Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Almora and Pithoragarh for May 8, warning that thundershower and hail might lash these districts on the day.  The report further warned that the lightning that may lash some areas of the above mentioned districts on May 8 may result in some damages and so people should be alert. Meanwhile, 22 mm rain has been recorded at Jeolikot, 9.5 mm at Chalthi, 8.5 mm at Yamkeshwar, 06 mm at Purola, 05 mm at Bastiya, 0.4 mm at Nainital/Bhimtal, 03 mm at Kedarnath and 2.5 mm at Karnaprayag and Neelkanth.
