WECD invites women to participate in Uttarakhand’s traditional apparels and accessories contest
On the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8, the Women Empowerment & Child Development (WECD) department has decided to conduct a State-wide contest among women to promote and preserve traditional apparels and accessories of Uttarakhand.
The WECD minister Rekha Arya stated that the traditional apparels and accessories we see today have been modified over the years and through this contest, the department wants to show the old and authentic traditional costumes and accessories to the current generation of Uttarakhand. The event will be organised at The Orchard Hall in Haridwar road and the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat will be the chief guest. Informing about the competition, Arya said that it is divided into three groups for the women of different age groups.
The first category is Cheli/Nauni Uttarakhandi (Uttarakhand’s daughter) in which women from 18 years to 30 years old can participate while the second and the third categories are Buari Uttarakhandi (Uttarakhand’s daughter-in-law) and Aama Uttarakhandi (Uttarakhand’s Grandmother) in which 31 years to 50 years old women and women above 51 years old can participate respectively. She said that winners in each category will receive Rs 31,000 while the first and second runner ups will receive Rs 21,000 and Rs 11,000 respectively. Talking about the procedure to participate in this contest, Arya said that interested candidates can get the free application form from the district programme offices in their respective districts and can later submit it with required details by February 24. The department will select two women from each category from every district and then all the selected candidates will be called for the full dress rehearsal on March 7 before the final event on March 8.
