The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya said that the department has demanded 18,000 smartphones from the central government for Anganwadi workers. The department is also gearing up to send a proposal to the central government to upgrade 2,254 mini Anganwadi centres of the State.
Arya stated this during the review meeting of the departmental works with the officials concerned and representatives of Anganwadi workers from each district of the State on Thursday. She informed that the department has issued Rs 49 crore and Rs 3.81 crore to all districts for Take Home Ration (THR) and building rent of Anganwadi centres respectively. She said that the department has demanded the State government for the budget to issue the pending amount for the year 2022-23.
The Anganwadi workers also complained to the WECD minister that they are asked to do work of other departments too but they do not get an allowance for it considering which, Arya instructed the officials concerned to summon a report from the District Programme Officer (DPO) in the matter. She also directed the officials to identify those self help groups (SHGs) who have been irresponsible towards timely packaging and delivery of THR to take action against them. She said that the department is working on improving the Nutrition Tracker mobile app too. She said that smartphones of several Anganwadi workers have stopped working considering which the department has asked the central government to provide 18,000 smartphones.
A proposal to upgrade 2,254 mini Anganwadi centres will be sent soon too. Arya stated that Anganwadi workers are the backbone of the department and every possible step is being taken to improve the condition of workers and Anganwadi centres.
