The Traffic Police and local administration have prepared a special diversion plan for Saturday and Sunday considering the possibility of a rise in tourist numbers visiting Nainital, Bhimtal and other popular tourist destinations nearby.
According to the police, visitors travelling from Nainital and Jyolikot towards Kainchi Dham will park their vehicles at the Bhawali sanatorium and use the shuttle service to reach Kainchi Dham. Those travelling from Bhimtal to Kainchi Dham will park their vehicles at Vikas Bhawan and use the bus shuttle service. Heavy vehicles travelling from Haldwani to the mountainous areas will be sent from Bhimtal Road via Khutani and Mukteshwar to reach their destinations. Similarly, heavy vehicles plying from Almora, Ranikhet and Bageshwar towards Haldwani will be sent from Kwarab to Ramgarh and then to Mukteshwar and Khutani to reach Bhimtal and then proceed towards their destinations. According to the officials of the local administration, the movement of vehicles related to essential services including those transporting fruits-vegetables, fuel and cooking gas, among others, will remain unaffected by the diversion plan. The authorities have appealed to the visitors and drivers to use the designated parking spots and use the shuttle service provided for them in order to maintain the proper flow of traffic.
It is pertinent to mention here that the rise in tourist footfalls in Nainital usually results in traffic congestion in the city.
