Weekly Covid cases witness big jump in U’khand

Cases increased from 439 in the week ending Jan 1 to 17,800 in last week

The severe intensity of the Omicron triggered third wave of the pandemic of Covid-19 in the state could be understood from the fact that the number of weekly cases have risen from 439 in the week ending January 1 to 17,800 in the last week ( January 9 to 15).

In the week ending January 15 which according to the data of the social development for communities (SDC) foundation is the 96th week ever since the first case of the disease was detected in the state in March 2020, a total of 1,69,351 tests were conducted by the state health department and out of them 17,800 were detected positive. In this week 17 deaths due to the disease were reported. Interestingly both the number of new cases and deaths were four times higher than the previous week (January 2 to 8). In this week ( 95th week) a total of 1,10,029 tests were conducted and 4,267 cases were reported positive. The health department also reported the death of four patients during 95th week.

The founder of SDC foundation Anoop Nautiyal said that in the last 15 days the contagion has increased exponentially. He said that the weekly infection rate has jumped to 10.51 percent. He said that the infection rate was 11 and 13.87 per cent during the 58th and 59th week respectively which was the time when the second wave of pandemic started in the stare.
