Wet spell forecast in U’khand till January 9
Met office issues alert- possibility of heavy snowfall in 5 districts today

Even as various parts of the state experienced rain and snowfall on Tuesday, the state meteorological department has forecast a wet spell till January 9. A western disturbance is very likely to affect north-west India from January 4 to 6 after which another western disturbance nad induced cyclonic circulation over north Rajasthan adjoining Punjab and neighbourhood are very likely to affect north-west India from January 7 to 9. Under the influence of these systems, light to moderate rain/snow is likely to occur are most places on January 5, 8 and 9 while very light to light rain/snow are likely at a few places on January 6 and 7 in Uttarakhand. Snowfall is likely to occur at places situated at altitude of 2,200 metres and above.
The meteorological centre has issued an alert regarding the possibility of heavy snowfall at isolated places at 3,000 metres altitude and above in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts on Wednesday while cold day conditions are likely to occur at isolated places in the state. Heavy snowfall is also forecast on January 8 and 9 in high altitude areas of some districts of the state. The provisional state capital Dehradun is forecast to experience generally cloudy skies with the possibility of light rainfall. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 15 degrees Celsius and nine degrees Celsius respectively on Wednesday.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at various places in the state on Tuesday were 17.3 degrees Celsius and 9.7 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 21.8 degrees Celsius and five degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 14.9 degrees Celsius and 3.3 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar, 10.6 degrees Celsius and 6.6 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri.
