A case of alleged domestic abuse has come to light in Dehradun’s Selaqui area where a woman has accused her husband Rahul Khanduri and in-laws of confining her in a room for nearly 10 months and subjecting her to physical and mental torture.
According to a complaint filed by the woman’s father Sanjeev Bahuguna on Monday, his daughter Sakshi was allegedly locked inside the house and regularly beaten by her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law. The complaint claims that she was assaulted with sticks, pipes, rods and other household items. The family has also alleged that she suffered serious injuries and had to undergo a medical examination after being rescued.
The complainant has alleged that his daughter was separated from her twin children after giving birth in February 2025. The complaint states that she was not allowed to hold, meet or even speak with her children. Her family claims that this separation caused severe emotional trauma and added to her suffering.
The complainant has further alleged that family members were not allowed to meet or speak with Sakshi for several months. Whenever they called, they were allegedly told that she was sleeping or unavailable. When the family finally managed to bring her out of the house, they claim she appeared mentally distressed and had lost track of the date, month and the passage of time.
The complaint also alleges that the purported victim was provided very little food and was treated in an inhuman manner. Selaqui police have registered the complaint and started an investigation into the matter.
Sahaspur police circle officer Anuj Kumar said that it is a matter of a family dispute and an investigation has been started. Some physical injuries were clearly visible on the woman and she has been sent for a medical examination. Further action will be taken based on the investigation and medical report, he said.
