A fire in the forests of the Sem Mukhem range in Uttarkashi district has been continuing for about three days causing considerable damage to the forest range. According to sources, the Sem Mukhem range officer also handles the charge of the Dunda range which has exacerbated the issue of resource and staff shortage in the area. There was no response when this correspondent attempted to contact the range officer. With the forest fire not being promptly extinguished before the start of summer, observers point out that the situation could be worse at the peak of the forest fire season at the height of summer.
