The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has stated that the government will not allow Uttarakhand to become a soft State for the conspirators of love Jihad. The CM chaired a meeting of senior officers of police and administration in the State secretariat on Friday in which the incidents of love Jihad in the State were discussed.
The meeting was attended by director general of police Ashok Kumar and other officers. In an informal interaction with the media persons after the meeting the CM said that the increase in the number of cases of love Jihad in the State gives an indication that there is some conspiracy behind such cases. He said that the State government has undertaken a verification drive to nab the suspicious elements. Dhami said that strict action will be taken against the culprits. “People of Uttarakhand have become more aware now and they coming out openly against them. We are not a soft target now. Here such people will have to pass through every kind of test”, he said
The CM added that the State has implemented a stringent anti-conversion law and it appears to be a reason for the conspiracy of love Jihad. “Directions have been given to the State police to deal with such elements strictly. The police have been directed to conduct verification drives from time to time to check the antecedents of the people coming from outside to settle here,’’ he said.
Echoing the sentiment of CM, cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi said that there is conspiracy behind the spurt in the cases of love Jihad in the State but Uttarakhand dealt with it in a stern manner and would set up an example for other States.
The additional director general (law and order) V Murugesan said that strict action will be taken against the culprits in such cases.
The statement of CM Dhami assumes importance in light of the occurrence of nearly a dozen alleged cases of Hindu females being lured by Muslim men concealing their religious identity and in some cases eloping with them in the State in recent times. Such cases have been reported from Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Dehradun and Haridwar districts.
