Former chief minister Harish Rawat has claimed that the Congress government would set up the institution of Lokayukt in Uttarakhand within 300 days of assuming office.
He said that in fact the process of setting up Lokayukt would start within a month of the Congress government taking charge. He said that the Congress would first check the status of Lokayukt which was sent to the governor and try to revive it and if required would bring a fresh bill for Lokayukt in assembly.
Rawat said that the Congress government would also appoint a Panchayat Ombudsman for increasing transparency and reducing corruption in Panchayati Raj bodies. The ombudsman would also reduce the bureaucratic interference in Panchayats.
