The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that being the principal opposition party, the Congress will continue to expose the failures of the State government. Reacting to the allegation of the ruling BJP that the opposition is instigating the students, the PCC president said that the Congress is only discharging its duties of a responsible opposition. He alleged that the workers of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) were involved in the attempt to attack senior leader of Uttarakhand Congress Pritam Singh when he went to support the unemployed in their protest on February 9.

Taking a swipe at the claim of the chief minister that the State has enacted a stringent anti-copying law, the PCC president said that the former CM of Uttar Pradesh, Kalyan Singh too had enacted an anti-copying act but the incidents of cheating are continuing. He castigated the State government for registration of cases on the unemployed who informed the administration of Uttarkashi about the broken seals of the question papers. “Initially they tried to influence this youngster but when he refused, a case was registered against him,’’ Mahara said.

The PCC president also claimed that in a desperate attempt to salvage the image of the government, delegations of people posing as the unemployed are being sent to meet the CM. On Saturday the delegation which met the CM had a person who is serving as Patwari in the State government. He said that by holding such meetings the advisers of the CM are actually damaging his image further. The PCC president demanded that the State government should release all the arrested unemployed and drop cases on the leaders of the student movement. He said that the Congress party would continue to support the unemployed youngsters.
