The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana has said that the party will knock the doors of the court if no action is taken against the culprits responsible for the tunnel collapse incident in Silkyara, Uttarkashi.
Interacting with the media persons at the headquarters of the State Congress party on Thursday, he said that the Road Transport and Highways ministry and the BJP government of Uttarakhand are trying to save the Navayuga construction company. He said that the felicitation of the rat hole miners done by the State government is also an attempt to divert attention from the real issue.
Dhasmana said that the earlier the rat hole miners had returned the cheques given to them by the State administration as they wanted government jobs. The Congress leader said that it is surprising that both the Road Transport and Highways ministry and the State government have failed to tell as to how the 41 labourers were working in the tunnel without the presence of any engineer and supervisor. “The authorities have also not answered as to how the 4.5 km long tunnel was being dug without any emergency exit and approved escape passage,’’ he said. The Congress leader claimed that no action has been taken against the Navyuga construction company because it has connections with people in power.
