Woman advocate files complaint alleging harassment, threats and financial exploitation

A woman advocate from Dehradun has filed a police complaint against social media activist Keshav Thalwal and his associate Trilok Nikoti, accusing them of harassment, threats, emotional blackmail and financial exploitation. The complaint was submitted at the Kotwali police station in Dehradun on May 8. Police have registered the FIR on Monday.
According to the complaint, the woman who is specially- abled, came in contact with Thalwal about three months ago through a Facebook page named Jago Uttarakhand. She stated that the page appeared to raise public issues and help victims, due to which she trusted him and contacted him regarding some personal problems faced by her family.
The complainant alleged that after gaining her trust, the accused started regularly communicating with her and shared emotional stories about his struggles, financial problems and alleged harassment. She claimed that he later borrowed money from her several times through online payment modes and in cash. The woman alleged that on March 26, he took Rs 25,000 in cash while promising to return it the next day, but later refused to repay the amount.
The advocate further alleged that the accused pressurised her emotionally and threatened to leak her private photos and videos on social media if she refused to give more money. She also claimed that he tried to force her into a relationship and marriage and demanded that she fight his legal cases free of cost.
In the complaint, the woman also alleged that the accused repeatedly threatened to commit suicide and name her in a suicide note. She said that this caused her severe mental stress and fear. She further claimed that the accused and his associates spread rumours about her and attempted to damage her social and professional reputation through social media and phone calls.
