Woman alleges assault on fruit shop, case registered

A dispute broke out between two groups over the sale of fruits in Gandhigram area of Dehradun. According to police, the incident happened on Wednesday near Laxman Chowk on Kanwali Road. The altercation soon turned into a brawl and the brawl into a fight with both sides having allegedly abused each other.
Police said they had intervened promptly, given the sensitivity involved. People of two communities had gathered and things could have worsened but for their timely intervention, police said.
According to the complaint, Laxmi Devi Sonkar, a boy, first came to her shop and bought fruits from her mother. After some time, he returned and started abusing them. Sonkar alleged that the boy had thrown fruits at her, slapped her and pushed her on the road before running away. She also claimed that the boy had earlier slapped her mother but no complaint had been filed at that time.
After receiving information about the incident, a police team from Kotwali Nagar reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Based on the complaint of the victim, the police registered a case against the accused under sections 115(2), 351(3) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said that the matter is under investigation and further legal action is being taken.
