Woman charred to death in Chamoli district

A 58-year-old woman Kashi Devi was charred to death in a fire at Tharali in Chamoli that broke out due to a short circuit during the wee hours of Monday. According to the locals, they observed the fire at around 1:30 am on Monday but most of the house was already burnt by then. The locals somehow tried to extinguish the fire and called the police too but they could not contact them due to weak mobile signals. The station officer (SO) of Tharali, Brijmohan Rana informed The Pioneer that the fire possibly broke out in the early hours of Monday but the locals noticed it around 1:30 am. When they could not reach us through the phone due to a bad mobile network, they came on foot to the nearest police station to inform the police about the incident, said Rana. He stated, “The police reached the scene around 4:30 am.
There were no apparent signs of foul play and it appeared that the short circuit occurred from the television. Since the inside of the house was made up of wood, the fire spread to the entire house.” He said that the deceased used to live alone and her two sons are working in the cities. He stated the body has been sent for the post-mortem and the matter is under investigation.
