At least one woman is reported to have died and several homes were flooded with water and debris after the level of the Kali river rose in the Dharchula area of Pithoragarh district bordering Nepal following heavy rainfall on Saturday. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along with other agencies began rescue and relief measures in the affected areas. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will be visiting the affected villages on Sunday and interacting with locals to check the situation.
According to locals, heavy rain was being experienced in Dharchula since 1 AM on Saturday even as similar weather was being experienced in the neighbouring parts of Nepal across the Kali river. The flow of the river was affected for some time following a landslide at a site in Nepal. Later, water and debris entered about 37 homes in the Khotila area of Dharchula. A woman reportedly died after being buried in the debris. Debris also entered at least 12 homes in Khadi Gali and Malli Bazaar areas in Dharchula. According to sources, about a dozen people are reported to be missing in neighbouring Nepal.
