Woman’s burnt body found in charred Bengaluru car, male missing

A burnt car was discovered with a woman’s burnt body in it on the Tapovan-Subhai motor road in the Jyotirmath area of Chamoli district on Sunday morning. The locals had spotted a couple driving around in the area in the car a day ago. The remains of a Mangalsutra was found with the body, pointing towards the woman being married, while the man is missing.

According to the Chamoli superintendent of police Sarvesh Panwar, police investigation has revealed so far that a couple in a Maruti Ritz car registered in Karnataka were spotted by locals in the Subhai area on Saturday. The car is registered in the name of one Santosh Kumar Senapathi, a resident of Bengaluru. Later on Sunday, when the totally burnt car was spotted by locals, villager Saurabh Negi informed the police and the local administration.

The police and State Disaster Response Force personnel reached the site of the incident and recovered the burnt body of a woman from inside the car. The man reported to be with the woman could not be found till the time of this report being filed. The police are investigating the matter and searching for the man, the SP informed.
