Woman’s burnt body in charred car- police find leads, search for missing man continues

The Chamoli police have ascertained the identity of the woman whose burnt body was found in a charred car on the Tapovan-Subhai motor road on Sunday. The man who was accompanying her has also been identified though not yet traced with the police continuing the search and investigation in the case. The police are checking footage from every CCTV camera from Jyotirmath to Subhai, among other aspects, as part of the investigation.

The police investigation so far has revealed that the man and the woman had been staying at a homestay in Dhak since January as brother and sister. The documents the duo had provided at the homestay and bank transaction details have revealed that the man is named Sunil Kumar Senapati while the woman is named Shweta Senapati. What the duo was doing in the homestay for the past three months is one of the questions the police are trying to find an answer to. Deputy superintendent of police Madan Singh Bisht said that the police are looking into every angle. The search for the missing man is also continuing while the footage from CCTV camera at multiple locations is also being looked, among other aspects being investigated by the police.

It will be recalled that the locals had on Saturday seen a car registered in Karnataka moving in the area. It was found burnt with the charred body of the woman the next day. The car is reported to be registered in the name of Bengaluru resident Santosh Kumar Senapati.
