Barkot police arrested a young man from Janakpuri, Delhi on the charge of circulating obscene photos and videos of a woman on social media. The accused identified as Manjeet (25 years) was later produced before court and sent to jail.
According to police sources, a woman filed a written complaint at Kotwali Barkot on February 12, accusing a man from Ghansali, Tehri of taking and circulating her obscene photos after befriending her on social media. The woman further wrote in the complaint that the accused had been threatening to kill her if she went to police. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and began an investigation.
The police also appealed to the people not to share personal information with any unknown person on social media and to immediately inform police if any objectionable or threatening activity is noticed so that legal action can be taken in time.
They further said that the superintendent of police, Uttarkashi, Kamlesh Upadhyay and the deputy superintendent of police had taken initiatives to have the accused arrested at the earliest.
