The chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal has written to the senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Dehradun, Daleep Singh Kunwar to take action against Congress chief spokesperson of the State, Garima Mehra Dasauni for allegedly spreading rumours and tarnishing the image of women commission as well as State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR).
Kandwal stated in her letter that Dasauni passed indecent remarks on USCW and SCPCR for participating in an event of the organisation FICCI FLO. She said that the representatives of both the commissions participated in the exhibition organised by FICCI FLO to encourage women entrepreneurs involved in the project but the Congress chief spokesperson condemned their participation and made nasty remarks about the commission’s work on social media.
Dasauni unnecessarily associated the unfortunate murder of 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari with the work of commissions to get cheap popularity and attain political advantage, said Kandwal. She has stated that such statements from Dasauni against the dignified constitutional bodies of the State have tarnished the image of USCW and SCPCR and women involved in FICCI FLO. She said in the letter to SSP that her purpose in writing the complaint letter is to make it clear to other people that using cheap tactics to politicise a tragic incident like Ankita Bhandari’s murder to get cheap popularity while trying to create distrust among the public about the constitutional bodies is petty and immoral. The USCW head has appealed to the SSP to take necessary action against Dasauni in the matter. It is pertinent to mention here that chairpersons of SCPCR and FICCI FLO have also approached the police to register a case against Dasauni in the same matter.
