Women-led food outlets to open soon in Doon

Dehradun will soon have four new food outlets, including cafes, canteens and restaurants, operated entirely by women self-help groups (SHGs). These outlets will be set up at the court premises, Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital, Guchhupani and Suddhowala near the Panchayat Ghar.
The administration has already started construction work for this initiative aimed at providing economic opportunities to women while also promoting local products, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said. He informed that these establishments will be fully managed by women who will be trained as per market standards. He said that the goal is to equip them with the skills needed to run these outlets successfully. Each outlet is expected to employ about 25 women, creating new job opportunities and financial independence for them.
Besides this, the outlets will help in marketing and selling locally produced goods, strengthening the SHGs economically. Bansal said that the outlet at district hospital will serve food to visitors, especially attendants of patients, ensuring they have access to nutritious meals. The canteen at the court premises will provide refreshments and snacks to visitors while also offering local products. The outlet at Suddhowala will focus on tourists, offering them traditional food and organic products that showcase the State’s culinary heritage. He said that this initiative is a step toward women’s empowerment, providing them with stable income sources and business experience.
The administration will monitor the progress of these outlets, making necessary improvements to ensure their long-term sustainability. If successful, similar projects will be expanded to other parts of the district, benefiting more women and promoting Uttarakhand’s local economy and culture, he added.
