Terming the women reservation bill tabled in the parliament by Narendra Modi government as election time rhetoric the chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni has said the riders of census and delimitation included in the bill expose the intention of the government. She told The Pioneer that reservation to the women should be given without any pre-condition.
Dasauni said that the government is taking the excuse of the pandemic of Covid-19 in not conducting the decadal census on time. In the recently held G-20 summit, India was the only country where the census has not been conducted. She added that due to the foresightedness of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi 15 lakh women of rural areas are representing Panchayats.
Dasauni said that before the Lok Sabha elections of 2019 Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had written a letter to PM Modi in which he had said that it is high time to bring the women reservation bill in the parliament. Gandhi had attached signatures of 32 lakh people of the country in support of the bill with his letter. Dasauni said that after a long delay the Modi government is now showing interest in the women reservation bill when the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 are near. She said that the government has deliberately added riders with the bill and it will at least take five to seven years to implement the provisions of the bill.
