Won’t tolerate negligence in disaster management during monsoon: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami warned the officers that negligence in disaster management during the upcoming monsoon period willl not be tolerated. He directed the officers concerned that all preparations should be completed before June 15 in view of the monsoon and an action plan should be prepared for meeting the challenges posed by excessive rainfall. The CM held a high level meeting at the state secretariat regarding preparations for the monsoon period on Tuesday.

He said that all the departments should appoint nodal officers for disaster management before June 15. The safety audit of STP plants and old bridges should be done and it should be ensured that no incident occurs due to electric cables, he said.

 Dhami said that Heli- ambulance should be arranged for patients and pregnant women in case of emergency during monsoon. The CM told the officers that they should ensure that accurate information of the weather forecast reaches people on time and they are kept on alert mode when required.

Dhami directed all the District Magistrates to identify the areas affected by landslides and make necessary arrangements. He said that proposals for the budget required for dealing with the monsoon should be prepared and sent to the government.

The CM directed that the damage caused to the crops due to excessive rainfall should be assessed immediately and compensation should be paid as the norms.

He said that arrangements for medicines, food items and other basic necessities should be kept in sufficient quantity in the mountainous areas. In case of disaster, the response time should be kept to a minimum. 

The CM directed the DMs that schools should be closed for the safety of students as per the weather forecast. In the meeting, the CM directed the officials to keep a helicopter ready for relief and rescue work in case of rain triggered disaster. The CM directed that in view of disaster management, a new battalion of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in Sariyapani of Almora district.

The Chief Minister said that the budget being demanded by various departments for disaster management should be forwarded to the government without delay. He directed the DMs to issue the budget for disaster management works.

 On a grave note, the CM warned that negligence of any kind will not be tolerated.

Dhami said that in the case of disruption of roads, power and drinking water lines during the monsoon period, the response time should be kept to a minimum for their smooth arrangements and alternative arrangements should also be ensured. He directed that the works of last year which have not been completed yet due to excessive rains should be completed by June 15.

The deputy chairperson of the infrastructure monitoring council Vishwas Dabur, chief secretary Radha Raturi, additional chief secretary  Anand Bardhan, principal secretary RK Sudhanshu, PS  L Fanai, director general of police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar, chief conservator of forest Dhananjay Mohan, secretaries  R Meenakshi Sundaram, Shailesh Bagoli,  Arvind Singh Hyanki, Dilip Jawalkar,  Sachin Kurve, R Rajesh Kumar, SN Pandey, Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat attended the meeting. All the DMs attended the meeting in a virtual mode.
