Work completed at ISBT for improved traffic and parking system

PNS | DEHRADUN

Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal stated that the multiple infrastructure projects aimed at improving traffic management around the ISBT area have been completed. The district administration has constructed four color-coded parking spaces at ISBT, which will soon be made available for public use. Besides this, the improvement work on the ISBT flyover has been completed, including the opening of the left turn towards Kargi after implementing necessary safety measures, he said.

Bansal informed that to ease traffic congestion, vehicles moving from the junction island towards Kargi Chowk have been diverted through the service road under the ISBT flyover. This diversion is expected to reduce traffic pressure at the junction point. The ISBT area, despite having two gates for entry and exit, had been operating mainly through one gate. Now, a new system has been introduced where buses traveling to Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kotdwar and other Garhwal and Kumaon regions will use Exit Gate 2, while those heading towards Saharanpur and Delhi will exit through Gate 1 and enter through Gate 2, he said.

He informed that to regulate passenger pick-up and drop-off, authorities have designated specific spots, prohibiting vehicles from stopping outside the ISBT premises. Strict action is being taken against violations, with the responsibility assigned to the SP traffic and the assistant regional transport officer, he said. He also informed that the movement of vehicles from Niranjanpur Mandi towards Kargi Chowk and Turner Road has been reorganised and light vehicles, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers, from Niranjanpur Mandi will now use the flyover to reach the junction island and proceed towards Kargi Chowk.

This adjustment aims to streamline vehicle movement and reduce congestion, he said. Due to the lack of designated parking for commercial establishments, vehicles such as e-rickshaws, small transport vehicles, and passenger carriers were being parked on the main road, leading to traffic disruptions. To resolve this, separate parking zones under the flyover have been designated for different types of vehicles, marked with four different colours. Bansal further informed that the tender process for drainage improvement at ISBT has been completed and the construction work is expected to be completed before the monsoon season.
