Extending his wishes to the workers on the International Labour Day, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Karan Mahara said that workers play a major role in the making of any nation and society. He claimed that during the tenure of Congress government maximum number of policies for labourers and poor were formed. Employment to lakhs of poor labourers and unemployed was provided by Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS).
He added that under Congress governments rural poor were provided houses under the Indira Aawas while under Rajiv Aawas Yojana, the urban poor were provided homes. The interests of labourers are always at the centre of the Congress party and the party is always ready for the development of this section of the society.
He said that the Narendra Modi government has always given a step-motherly treatment to Uttarakhand and has hit the interests of the workers by reducing the budget of many schemes and projects. Mahara added that the Congress party would always stand firmly in support for the workers.
