A forest fire awareness programme was held on the directions of divisional forest officer and Nainital zoo director Chandrashekhar Joshi on Monday. Padma Shri recipient photographer Anup Sah was the chief guest while Kumaon University botany professors Lalit Tiwari, Navin Chandra Pandey and associate professor Manoj Kumar Arya were the special guests on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Sah spoke in detail about forests and the reasons for forest fires along with biodiversity and its importance. Tiwari spoke on forest fire management in detail while Arya spoke on the damage being caused to fauna by forest fires. Nainital sub divisional forest officer Deepak Kumar Tiwari spoke about steps taken on the ground to tackle forest fires. Speaking on the occasion, the DFO Chandrashekhar Joshi spoke on how to establish communication with the public to raise awareness and prevent forest fires.
