World AIDS Day: Seminar held at SVU

To mark the World AIDS Day, a one-day national seminar, poster competition and street play for AIDS awareness was organised under the joint aegis of the community medicine department of Venkateshwara Institute of Medical Sciences and Shri Venkateshwara University on Monday.

The former director, Union Ministry of Health and renowned physician, Balmiki Prasad threw light in detail on the spread, symptoms, prevention and control and available treatment of this deadly disease. Senior doctors, MBBS/Nursing/Paramedical students presented a memorandum to the President through street play and poster competition for prevention and control of AIDS in the institute campus.

Addressing the commemorative programme, the chairman, Venkateshwara group of institutions, Sudhir Giri said that AIDS is not just a deadly disease but a social anathema. “Venkateshwara will run awareness campaign in collaboration with the Government and voluntary organisations for its complete eradication,” he added. He also lauded the activities of National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) in controlling this deadly sexually transmitted disease.
