Would take opinion of public representatives on new districts- CM

Giving a new impetus to the old demand for creation of new districts in Uttarakhand, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that discussions will be held with the public representatives and their opinion would be sought on the issue. Dhami told a news agency at his residence on Wednesday that the demand for creation of new districts is an old one and his government would seek opinion of the public representatives on the issue and a decision on reorganisation and requirements of the districts would be taken.
The statement of Dhami that his government would soon take steps and move forward on demand or creation of new districts has rekindled the hopes of the residents of many areas of the State.
There are 13 districts and two divisions in Uttarakhand at present. The demand for creation of Kotdwar district from Pauri district, Rishikesh from Dehradun, Didihat from Pithoragarh, Yamunotri from Uttarkashi, Gairsain from Chamoli and Roorkee from Haridwar has been raised by the residents of these areas from time to time. Apart from these the people of Narendranagar in Tehri district, Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar and Karnprayag in Chamoli want the government to give them the Status of district for the development of these areas.
