The chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing in the Lok Sabha the long-pending Women’s Reservation Bill (WRB) meant to reserve a third of parliament’s and State assembly’s seats for women and stated that it marks the onset of a new era of women empowerment in India.
Lauding the initiative, Kandwal further said that a new era of empowerment has been ushered in for the women of the country thanks to the unwavering determination of the Prime Minister. “This bill kept hanging fire for a considerably long time and now it seems that decks have been cleared for its passage in both houses of the parliament. And once this happens the political empowerment of women will become a reality and in the coming days, the women will land in positions of power to shape the policies of the country,” she said and added that this bill is poised to inspire women across the country to forge ahead while providing impetus to their political aspirations.
