Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, Greater Noida, highlighted the successful treatment of a rare and highly complex case of abdominal aortic aneurysm using Advanced Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR). Addressing the media here, the hospital’s director and Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) HoD Dr Ved Prakash said that Kedar Nath (68) with a history of hypertension and a left ureteric stone, was admitted with severe abdominal pain and constipation. Detailed investigations revealed a life-threatening abdominal aortic aneurysm and other conditions placing him at an extremely high risk of sudden rupture and fatal internal bleeding.

The CTVS team performed an EVAR, a minimally invasive procedure in which a stent graft is delivered through the blood vessels to reinforce the weakened portion of the aorta and prevent rupture. “Abdominal aortic aneurysm is often called a silent killer because it may not produce noticeable symptoms until it reaches a critical stage or ruptures, which can be life-threatening.” Prakash said.

Dr Devashish Gupta, general physician and cardiologist, SK Nursing Home and Hospital, said, “Awareness about abdominal aortic aneurysm remains low despite its potentially fatal consequences. Persistent abdominal or back pain in elderly patients, particularly those with hypertension or vascular risk factors, should never be ignored.” The hospital also announced that specialist OPD services from Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital will continue to be organised in Haldwani every month.
