While greeting the people on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the sages of ancient India had expounded yoga as something that integrates and unifies. The globalisation of yoga thus signifies the acceptance of the notion that the whole world is one family, he said. He avers that yoga having become a global phenomenon denotes the greatness inherent in the maxim of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
Alluding to the G-20 Summit being held under India’s presidency, the PM said that the integral outlook intrinsic to yoga had inspired the themes of one economy, one family and one future being set for the summit. “At around 5:30 pm IST, I will participate in the Yoga programme which is being organised at the United Nations headquarters. The coming together of more than 180 countries on India’s call is historic. When the proposal for Yoga Day came to the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, it was supported by a record number of countries,” PM Modi said in a video message.
Referring to this year’s celebration of the special day being termed as ‘Ocean Ring of Yoga’, the PM said that the timeless yogic concept is comparable to the unfathomable depth of ocean.
