Yoga and Malkhamb will be part of the 38th National Games to be hosted by Uttarakhand. This was made possible due to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) agreeing to the request to this effect made by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The IOA chief PT Usha announced this during the release of the 38th National Games mascot Mauli- a monal pheasant, here on Sunday. The logo, jersey, anthem and tagline of the games were also released on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Dhami said that this occasion will prove to be historic in Uttarakhand’s sports history. Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the citizens for the opportunity given to Uttarakhand to host the National Games, he said that the logo depicts the colours of Uttarakhand. The anthem exhibits unity while inspiring the players to strive harder. The mascot based on the monal pheasant exhibits the speciality of Uttarahand while exhorting the youths to set up big targets and strive to achieve them, the CM said. “The logo is inspired by our State bird- the monal pheasant and will display the natural beauty and diversity of Uttarakhand across the nation. The torch of the National Games which was lit up today signifies unity in the nation and joint efforts. It will be taken across the State and aid in encouraging sportsmanship and sports culture in society,” Dhami added.

Union minister of State for Sports, Raksha Khadse said that Indian players are performing better now at the international level, adding that players from Uttarakhand are also bringing laurels for the nation and State. IOA chief PT Usha congratulated Uttarakhand for getting the opportunity to host the 38th National Games while expressing the hope that more efforts will be undertaken to develop sports in the State.
