Young climber from Tehri climbs Mt Kilimanjaro

Young mountaineer Rohit Bhatt (22), a resident of Koti-Magron village in Tehri district, has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the highest peak of the continent of Africa. He hoisted the Indian flag on the peak and also paid tribute to the trainees and instructors of the Nehru Mountaineering Institute in Uttarkashi who were killed in an avalanche at Draupadi Ka Danda last year. He used a banner with photographs of the deceased climbers to pay tribute to them.
Bhatt climbed the 5,895 metre high Kilimanjaro peak on January 28. On January 25, Rohit started climbing Kilimanjaro. He was able to summit the peak at 6 AM on January 28. Bhatt had also taken along a large Indian flag to hoist atop the mountain. Bhatt’s father said that the Tanzanian government is expected to give him a certificate in a couple of days. The young climber also faced some financial issues in Tanzania and to help him out his relatives in Africa provided him some monetary assistance. His father said that he had taken a Rs nine lakh bank loan from his son’s campaign. His relatives and residents of the village also contributed their bit to help the young climber financially.
