In latest news from Dehradun, a young woman died as wall of DAV PG College located in Karanpur area of Dehradun collapsed on her. The deceased was identified as Sushmita Tomar. Her brother who is a student of the college was seriously injured in the accident. She went to the college, her alma mater, to give packets of sweets to her former teachers on landing a job of junior assistant teacher in a government college in Purola. When the siblings were returning from the college the wall collapsed on them. Following the incident, a large contingent of police was deployed in the college premises amidst tension with the agitated students having staged a sit-in on Sevok Ashram Road, demanding immediate resignation of the principal of the institute. While expressing deep anguish over the death, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad activists alleged that they had on several earlier occasions urged the principal to have the dilapidated walls of the college rooms repaired but to no avail. The college’s student union president Dayal Bisht who along with others was present at the sit-in demanded exemplary punishment of those to be found responsible for the incident and also prompt repair of the crumbling parts of the college building to prevent recurrence of such unfortunate incident.
